The Marshmallow Test

In this reprise of a now-classic Stanford psychological experiment from the 1960s, kids are put in a room with a marshmallow and told they can either eat it immediately or wait until the researcher gets back, and they'll be given a second marshmallow. Hilarity ensues as the kids suffer marshmallow temptation!

Life Lesson ... for you!

One year ago, a friend from Spain told me about this book. I read it and I think at this instant more than 10 times :) It is a very nice, easy and inspirational book that help you go further when nothing gives you hopes to continue. It is a story on positive change. I want to recommend you this book as a Life Lesson. Here is also a nice animated movie from youtube .. or see the movie (en Espanol) at the end of this story.

Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson

this is a small book with a big message.

Who Moved My Cheese has only three sections.

The main story comes in section two where we meet the characters.

Two mice, named Sniff and Scurry, and two little people, named Hem and Haw, are in search of cheese.Cheese, of course, represents those things in your life that you count on to provide what you need, when you need it. Sniff and Scurry are mice and, as such, don't have much of a brain but rely on their basic survival instincts to find what they need in order to live. Hem and Haw are little people with brains. They have emotions, intellect and preconceived ideas like anyone reading this.

Each morning the four characters rise early and venture into the scary, dark maze of the unknown in search of cheese. The mice search together, and the little people search as a team. Sniff will lift his nose into the air trying to catch an aroma that will lead the way to what he and Scurry are seeking.

The mice, using their instincts, run down corridor after corridor. More than once they reach a dead end and have to go back. At the end of Corridor C they find a big Cheese Room with a plentiful supply of cheeses. Early each day they return to the Cheese Room and check all around before they settle beside the cheese and begin eating.

Hem and Haw are being truthful to their names; hemming and hawing around as they move down corridors and rationalizing about why their unable to find cheese, even taking second looks down the same fruitless corridors. But, eventually, they find the Cheese Room at the end of Corridor C. The little people are ecstatic and immediately begin filling themselves with their newfound fortune. Early morning finds Sniff and Scurry performing the same routine: racing down the maze to the end of Corridor C, checking the status of the cheese room, and enjoying the supply of cheese. Early morning finds Hem and Haw lingering in bed, taking longer showers and, eventually, walking through the maze to the cheese room where they kick back, relax and eat...eat...eat.

Part II

One morning, Sniff and Scurry, raced to the cheese room at the end of Corridor C and discovered the cheese was gone. They weren't really surprised because they had been checking the room each morning and had noticed that the supply was getting smaller.

Their instincts took control.

Out the door, sniffing the air, and racing out into the scary, dark maze in search of a new cheese supply. Later that day, Hem and Haw showed up at the cheese room.

They were horrified. "Who moved my cheese", shouted Hem, along with several other emotional outbursts. No one had the right to take his cheese.

Haw stood there in a daze, not really hearing all of Hem's rants and raves. He was dumbfounded that the cheese was gone.

What would he do now?

His little brain whirred with all manner of thoughts. Sadly, the two little people returned home, hungry.

The next day, Hem and Haw returned to the cheese room at the end of Corridor C. They rationalized: the cheese will return. Everything will be as it once was.

Day after day they returned, but the cheese never came back.

Far away and much deeper into the dark, scary maze, Sniff and Scurry found a NEW CHEESE ROOM with more cheese than they'd ever seen before. Back at the end of Corridor C, Haw began to have thoughts that something needed to be done. He and his friend were growing weak and very thin due to the lack of food. He suggested that the two of them probably should go back out into the scary, dark maze of the unknown and search for a new cheese supply.

Hem would not hear of it. That cheese had been his and whoever took it would bring it back; it was only right. The cheese would return. Everything would be like it once was.

Each morning Sniff and Scurry would race to the NEW cheese room, check all around, and enjoy the many different cheeses, many more than had been in the OLD cheese room. And, each day, the two little people returned to Corridor C. Each day found them thinner and weaker.

Haw made a decision. He would go out into the scary, dark maze of the unknown alone if Hem would not go with him. And he stepped out into the darkness, leaving his friend still waiting for the cheese to return.

Part III

Day after day, Haw would move through the maze of the unknown seeking a new supply of cheese. More than once he thought about returning to his friend at the end of Corridor C. More than once his thoughts bordered on despair as he grew thinner and weaker. Yet he plundered onward. His decision to change his way of thinking was rewarded when he stepped into the NEW CHEESE ROOM and found Sniff and Scurry.

Along his journey, Haw had left messages on the wall. He hoped Hem would follow, read the messages, and find his way.

"If you do not change, you can become extinct."

"What would you do if you weren't afraid?"

"Smell the cheese often so you will know when it is getting old."

"Movement in a new direction helps you find new cheese."

"When you move beyond your fear, you feel free."

"Imagining myself enjoying new cheese even before I find it, leads me to it."

The simple little story of Who Moved My Cheese can be a powerful one for anyone facing life changes. Life changes happen to everyone. It's how we deal with those changes that is important.

We can "sniff" the winds of change and "scurry" in a new direction, or we can "hem and haw" around in our misery mad at the world because "no one had the right to move my cheese."

Everyone faces challenges.

Be brave and learn from it something that could change your life. There is no philosophy in here...it´s only a way you can dare see LIFE. The way you see it is the way you live your life at this instant.

Nothing and never is too late for big or small changes ...

already one week in Finland ... I´ve learned a lot of things about this culture, this people and something about finnish educational sistem. I´ve started to lear the finnish language that is quite difficult. I had good and not very pink days but as an overall I am very happy being here.

I like the work AIESEC organized for us even though is quit different from what I was expecting but as I gave up expecting something ... deciding for the most convenient situation as experiencing everything is comming.

I live now together with other 9 interns experience that is quite a big challenge. Living with 9 other different personalities is not so easy but is always nice when you have the opportunity to learn more about their own culture, traditions and countries. During this weeks when the Training session takes part at the University of Helsinki I use the opportunity to learn by myself finnish language too. I visit the city and enjoyed the time through different other kind of activities.

This weekend we were in Suomenlinna Island and enjoyed the cold weather.

Suomenlinna, until 1918 Viapori, (Finnish), or Sveaborg (Swedish), is an inhabited sea fortress built on six islands, today within Helsinki, the capital of Finland. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and popular with both tourists and locals, who enjoy it as a picturesque picnic site. Originally named Sveaborg (Fortress of Svea), or Viapori as called by Finns, it was renamed Suomenlinna (Castle of Finland) in 1918 for patriotic and nationalist reasons, though it is still also known by its original name. It is an example of the Star Fort style of fortification.

The Suomenlinna district of Helsinki consists of eight islands. Five of the islands; Kustaanmiekka (which has the greatest concentration of fortifications), Pikku Mustasaari, Iso Mustasaari, Länsi-Mustasaari and Susisaari are connected by either bridges or sandbars. The unconnected islands are Särkkä, Lonna and Pormestarinluodot.

On Sunday we were celebrating Chinese New Year that was a great event here in Helsinki.

The Chinese New Year is the most important annual holiday in the Chinese culture. Traditionally, it is celebrated with family, relatives, and close friends. January 2009 marks the beginning of the Year of the Ox in the Chinese calendar. The Ox symbolises prosperity through work, and, this year, it pays off to put effort into one's work.

Those born in the Year of the Ox are calm, patient, and organised, as well as tireless workers. The Chinese believe that good deeds done during the New Year and the symbols of happiness and prosperity bring happiness throughout the coming year. For example, Jiaozi, the wheat dumplings that symbolise money, are recommended in large quantities during the New Year.

The Chinese New Year was celebrated in Helsinki in a big way, as the cities of Helsinki and Beijing host the Lasipalatsi square event for the third time.

A big event but too cold to enjoy it as many had done it :(

Reteta pentru un AN BUN

Se iau 12 luni si se curata foarte bine de amaraciune, mandrie, ura, invidie, frica, irascibilitate si stres. Se imparte fiecare luna in 28-31 zile, dupa caz, astfel ca proviziile sa ajunga exact 1 an!

Fiecare zi se prepara separat: 1 parte munca, 1 parte liniste, 1 parte umor. Se mai adauga 3 linguri optimism, 1 lingurita toleranta, un praf de bun simt si… o picatura de speranta! Peste aluatul astfel obtinut se toarna apoi dragoste din belsug.

Preparatul gata facut se aseaza pe farfurie si se impodobeste cu frunzulite de curaj si incredere in sine. Se serveste zilnic, cu bucurie, alaturi de ceasca de cafea din fiecare dimineata!

Prezenta reteta nu se compenseaza, ea este GRATUITA si se transmite liber de la om la om, insotita de urarea: Un An Nou darnic si bun, Sanatate Deplina, Fericire Maxima si Abundenta Absoluta!

Life and its twists and tricks

"Life, what a trip! One minute you're born, the next you die. Then, one day, you stand back and say:

"Aye yai yai! Was that ever believable, or what?! First I thought I was this and then I thought I was that, then I became this and then that. Hold on now, why are you looking at me like that? Wait a minute... OHMYGOSH! There was a pattern! Holy cow! You mean I could have thought anything... and been anything?! But what about limits? How could that be? What do you mean pie in the sky? Dreams come true? Infinite possibilities?"

Fortunately, there's still time...

Believe or not, if you think at it...it is true.
When I was 14 I hated my life, I hated school. With 18...the same. Now with 27 I miss my childhood, I miss school. With 21 was too much .. university, work, traveling, decisions ...now I miss that time and I regret I haven't spend more time enjoying it, being present and enjoying the moment.

I could say I now realize it much better but I am sooo damn happy I did it...and as I like to believe...it is never too late, fortunately, there's still time...

15.00: Cafeaua is face efectul si cheful de munca ma striga. Un e-mail venit de la un amic ma tine pe loc. Citesc ... ma prapadesc singura de ras ... vi-l trimit si voua sa va distrati putin:

"Cum se transmit mesajele intr-o firma :))

NOTA de la Directorul General catre Directorii Executivi:

"Astazi la ora 11 va fi o eclipsa totala de soare, care va fi observabila timp de doua minute. Avand in vedere ca acesta este un eveniment rar si cu totul deosebit, se permite tuturor angajatilor observarea eclipsei din parcarea firmei intre orele 10:30 si 11:30, unde vom oferi si o scurta explicatie despre dinamica eclipselor. Celor care doresc sa observe eclipsa le vor fi distribuiti ochelari de protectie, la un pret minim."

In schimbul unei mici sume de bani, veti avea ochelari de protectie."
